Holiday Travel & Your Auto Insurance - Don't Leave Home Without It!

As Americans, we love to gather with our families for the Holidays. Many times that requires us to travel outside of our home territory. Whenever traveling remember that all states require us to be financially responsible when behind the wheel. For example, Massachusetts requires auto insurance to be carried by all drivers in their state. When you are traveling through their state, you are driving under their state laws... not New Hampshire's! If you are pulled over for a traffic ticket or minor accident, you will be required to prove you have auto insurance (always carry your insurance cards with you). No insurance means big trouble if you're the driver!

It's Risky Business
Remember the risks if you choose to drive without insurance. Should you cause an accident and the other party suffers damage; without auto insurance your personal assets and future earnings may be at risk. When an auto accident occurs, people may be injured and vehicles (or other property) may be damaged. Damage to your vehicle can also occur in other ways such as through theft, vandalism, or natural disasters. A solid auto insurance policy can protect you against these types of losses.

If you need to rent a vehicle this holiday season know that your auto insurance does cover your rental car, but be sure to review your coverages before you go. If you have liability only, your rental will only be covered by your liability insurance. Be sure to purchase their rental insurance option to cover any physical damage of the auto and consider GAP coverage because the value of the car can be quite different in the eyes of your insurance company and the rental company. Don’t let a legal matter dampen your holiday. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your insurance before heading out for your holiday.

We wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
