Hurricane Season is Here!

The Weather experts have said that 2006 is going to be another active year for Hurricanes and that the North East is due to be hit. Don't be caught off guard if a big storm comes our way!

How to Prepare for a Hurricane:
- Listen to a battery operated television and/or radio for weather reports.
- Gas up your car.
- Put away anything not tied down outside such as: deck
furniture, garden tools, etc.
- Check emergency supplies such as: first aid kit, water,
canned food, flashlights, etc.
- Close and/or board up windows.
- Take down outside antennas.
- Set refrigerator/freezer to coldest settings and don't open
unless absolutely necessary.
- Store drinking water in clean bathtubs, jugs and bottles.
- Pack away valuables and personal papers in a waterproof
container on the highest level of your home.
- Review evacuation plan.
- Moor boat securely or move it to a designated safe place. Use tie downs to anchor trailer to the ground or house.

What not to do!
-
Don't put Masking Tape on the windows. It does not keep glass from shattering.
- Don't apply window film. It is only slightly more effective
than masking tape.
- Don't crack open a window. A tightly sealed exterior is
your best protection against any storm.
- Don't buy a chain saw! After a storm when stress levels are high is not the time to learn how to use dangerous
equipment.
- Don't buy candles. Use battery powered lighting to be safe.
